The Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) in Bengaluru achieved a significant landmark in 2024. It exceeded 40 million passengers for its first time in history. This remarkable feat propels Bengaluru airport into the ‘Large Airport’ category, as defined by the Airports Council International (ACI), reflecting its growing prominence on the global aviation stage.

The airport has seen impressive growth in terms of passenger traffic, air-traffic movements (ATMs), as well as cargo operations. It is now a major gateway for trade and travel.

In 2024 Bengaluru airport (BLR), which welcomed 37.2 millions passengers in 2023, will welcome a total of 40.7 million passengers. This is a substantial increase. The airport recorded its highest ever single-day passenger number of 126,532 on October 20, 2024. Daily air traffic averaged 723, reaching a high of 782 ATMs in October 2024.

BLR Airport’s network expanded significantly in 2024. It added 11 new domestic destinations as well as 4 international routes. The airport’s position in India as the third busiest airport for international passengers was boosted by the growth in international seat capacities, mainly due to increased flights by major airlines such as IndiGo.
