The Sharjah Airport Authority announced that Sharjah International Airport received a total of 17,101.725 passengers in the year 2024. This represents a 11.4 percent increase from 15,356,212 in 2023. In addition, the number of flights reached 107,760. This represents a 9.5% growth compared with 98,433 in 2023.
Cargo handling has also seen unprecedented growth. Volumes increased by a staggering 38.6 percent, reaching 195.909 tonnes, compared to the 141.358 tonnes in 2020. The airport also handled 14,035 tonnes of sea-air cargo, reinforcing it as a major logistics hub.
Ali Salim Al Midfa said that the airport’s record-breaking performance reflects its status as a global hub of air transport and logistic. He attributed the success of Sharjah Airport to its commitment to provide top-tier service and pioneering travel experience aligned with their strategic plan to accommodate up to 25 million passengers per year by 2027.
Al Midfa stated that the SAA will continue to prioritize enhancing airport facilities, streamlining its operations, and promoting sustainable practices in alignment with UAE aviation sector goals. This includes expanding partnerships and launching new destinations to meet passenger needs.
Sheikh Faisal bin Said Al Qassimi (Director of Sharjah Airport Authority) highlighted the airport’s passenger growth, which he said reflected Sharjah’s remarkable advances in tourism, development and investment. These achievements are backed by modern infrastructure, progressive governance and robust legislative frameworks.
Sharjah Airport has expanded its network by adding seven new direct destinations for passengers to various capitals and major cities in 2024.
Air Arabia launched direct flight services from Sharjah Airport, to Warsaw, Krakow and Athens in Greece. They also fly to Male, the capital city of the Maldives. Fly Oya also introduced direct flights from and to Tripoli, Libya.
By 2024, there will be more than 100 international destinations served by Sharjah Airport. Six new airlines began flying via Sharjah Airport: Fly Jinnah, UR Airlines, Fly Oya, AJet, Turkiye and Flynas, all from Saudi Arabia.
Sharjah Airport has significantly improved its air cargo efficiency and attracted new airlines. Kenya Airways began cargo services from Kenya, Somalia and Tanzania while UPS introduced weekly routes between the Far East, Sharjah and Europe.
Qatar Airways Cargo launched cargo routes between Doha & Sharjah. In line with Sharjah’s strategic food security initiative, the airport assisted the Department of Agriculture and Livestock’s Mleiha Dairy Farm in importing 2,200 cattle on 13 dedicated flights.
