Air India, owned by Tata, began operations on Thursday from Delhi to Newark in New Jersey using its flagship A350 900 aircraft. Air India’s A350-900 service on Delhi-New York JFK was inaugurated in November 2024. Air India has now begun operating all non-stop flights from India’s capital to the New York area with its A350 aircraft.
Air India had announced that it would be updating its international route network in 2025. Air India will deploy its best aircraft at key gateways in Southeast Asia, Europe and the United States, adding to the earlier deployment of its flagship A350 or B777 with upgraded interiors on several U.S. routes and UK routes, according to the Tata-owned airline.
The updates also result in optimized flight schedules for major international routes. This will offer travellers greater flexibility and allow seamless intercontinental travel from North America or Europe to Australia or Southeast Asia through Air India’s hubs of Delhi and Mumbai.
Air India Express and Air India together operate 298 planes, flying to and fro from 55 destinations within India and 48 destinations abroad. IndiGo, the market leader with over 60% of the market, has 418 planes in its fleet, and adds one aircraft on average per week. Air India Express plans to add 15 more aircraft by March. However, Air India’s next batch of aircraft deliveries will start in 2026.
