Air India has confirmed that it will begin operating the Delhi-Tokyo flight from Haneda Airport on 31 March 2025. This will provide passengers with a faster and more convenient way to reach central Tokyo.

The airline will operate four weekly flights from Delhi (HND) to Tokyo’s Haneda airport (HND), replacing the current Narita service (NRT), located farther away from the centre of the city. This will allow passengers to save time by reducing the travel time from Haneda Station to Tokyo Station to only 30 minutes.

Air India has expanded its codeshare agreement, in addition to the operational change, with Star Alliance member All Nippon Airways. From 1 April 2025, Air India will place its ‘AI’ code on ANA flights from Tokyo Haneda to six major cities in Japan: Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Nagoya, Okinawa, Osaka, and Sapporo. Air India will now be able to offer its passengers the option to book a ticket that includes all six destinations. Baggage will also be checked to the final destination.

Similarly, ANA will place its ‘NH’ code on Air India’s flights between Delhi and Tokyo Haneda as well as several major Indian cities, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Pune. This reciprocal agreement enhances the access to both airlines’ network, facilitating smoother travel between Japan and India.

“This expanded partnership strengthens the bridge between our nations.”

It opens up Japan for our guests, while improving travel convenience and experience between India and Japan. The move comes at a time when tourism from India to Japan is growing. In 2024, 233,000 Indians will visit Japan, which represents a 40% increase over the previous year.
