Asiana Airlines announced that, starting January 2, 2025, it will be increasing fees for excess luggage on its international flights. These fees are for baggage that exceeds the airline’s allowance.

Asiana announced that fees for excess baggage will increase by up to 40,000 won (USD 29,66) depending on the route. The excess baggage fee for short-haul routes within 90 minute of Korea will increase from 60,000 won to 90,000.

The fee will rise from 140,000 won per piece to 180,000 for flights to Europe and Oceania. The cost of each extra piece on flights to America will increase from 200,000 won to 240,000 won. Asiana is also increasing its excess baggage fees. 23 kilograms will be the limit.

Chinese tourists will likely take longer trips over the Golden Week holiday but spending may not rise due to economic concerns. Many will opt for cheaper domestic or shorter-haul overseas destinations to take advantage of the lower airfares. The government predicts that daily trips will increase slightly, with a focus on Asian hubs for international travel.

Asiana will charge passengers between 60,000 and 110,000 won. Asiana, South Korea’s second largest airline, said that this is its first increase in excess baggage fees since July 2019

Asiana explained that this was a necessary step, given the increase in operating costs.

“We will give a 10% discount to passengers who purchase additional baggage allowance in advance.”

Due to the soaring prices of oil and other costs, low cost carriers such as Jeju Air Co. Air Seoul Inc. Jin Air Co. Eastar Jet Co. raised their excess luggage fees this year.
