Batumi, Georgia

The partner country of the world’s largest travel trade fair ITB 2023 in Berlin from 7 – 9 March is Georgia, a rather unknown pearl of the Caucasus in German-speaking countries. The country, which is roughly the size of Bavaria, has an exciting mountain and Caucasus landscape and is also located directly on the Black Sea.

Three mountains of the ‘Greater Caucasus’ alone are at least 5000 metres high, the Black Sea coast of Georgia has 13 seaside resorts and a temperate Mediterranean climate, at least in winter by the sea. January 2023 was often sunny, and February is also off to a good start. The sun has been shining from a deep blue sky in recent days. It’s a little chilly in the shade, but quite pleasant in the sun (up to 19C).

Georgia’s tourism is the No. 1 growth industry

There will also be some exciting presentations on this topic at the ITB 2023 travel trade fair in Berlin. Georgia is the partner country of the world’s most important travel trade fair this year. If the plans presented at the ITB trade fair are realised, the small country on the Black Sea will be catapulted to the level of major top destinations such as Dubai or Singapore. The hotels were already full last year, with people from all over the world enjoying travelling to Georgia.

Batumi’s future, the Ambassadori Island project?

Business and political experts are certain that this decade will be an exciting one for Georgia’s travel industry. For more and more people in this region, the dynamic development promises well-paid work. The so-called 100 million US $ ‘Ambassadori Island Batumi’ project will become the focus of public attention at the latest after the completion of various hotel and apartment buildings, some with breathtaking scenery. Fancy exploring this Black Sea metropolis a little?

Batumi’s asset: the Black Sea coast

No problem: hire bicycles and e-scooters or even pretty nippy cycle rickshaws can be found almost everywhere along this varied beach promenade. With all the sights in the metropolis, it’s easy to get out of breath. There is a lot of art and modern design artefacts to marvel at. New buildings have an extravagant design language and show in this way what the future of Batumi will look like. The country’s second largest city offers so many highlights that one or two ‘explorers’ will be longing for an alternative form of transport…. – and yes, fortunately there are plenty of them.

Grand Gloria Batumi is located by the sea

This building is an exquisite luxury hotel with an exceptional design, ideally located on New Boulevard on the shores of the Black Sea in Batumi. The luxury hotel epitomises the warmth of Georgian hospitality. It’s location is tranquil and quiet: even if there are several flights a day to Batumi airport.

The hotel is located in an attractive neighbourhood that is in close proximity to the most popular and well-known tourist attractions. From here, guests can quickly reach the most popular areas of the metropolis. Batumi Airport is only around 5 kilometres away. The location on the pedestrianised zone means that the food, drinks and good wines in the bars and restaurants leave nothing to be desired. The railway station is about 20 minutes away by taxi or car, a distance of about 8 km.

Lively enviroment

With a variety of restaurants, shopping centres, dancing fountains, nightclubs and the seaside boulevard that stretches around the hotel, guests can enjoy the Georgian entertainment world to the fullest. Grand Gloria Hotel’s comfortable, state-of-the-art facilities and excellent location make it an ideal place for guests and travellers looking to immerse themselves in Georgian hospitality and culture.

Very good cuisine

Georgian cuisine has a lot to offer in culinary terms. Spices, tkemali, adjika or sweet muraba are skilfully used. At the Grand Gloria Batumi, holidaymakers can now discover culinary Georgia. Spices, herbs, ingredients for Georgian recipes and popular delicacies from Georgia are available for guests to discuss with the kitchen crew on request.

The busy kitchen crew at the Grand Gloria Batumi works tirelessly and serves excellent local and international dishes. I have now had the opportunity to try various dishes and am really impressed. There are currently around 100 employees working for the well-being of the guests, and in the summer the number of staff will increase by a further 50 hotel employees. The 167 rooms and suites at the Grand Gloria Batumi are very well furnished and the Seaside View suites and rooms are particularly popular with guests.

Wine country for 8000 years

Of course, there are also good wines, especially at the Grand Gloria Batumi. With 8,000 years of wine culture, Georgia is the country with the longest experience in the art of producing the best wines in the world. The result is definitely something to be proud of:

Prices and specials

Grand Gloria Batumi: a very good wine costs 420 Lari (approx. 150 EUR) at the hotel, but it also tastes good to experienced sommeliers. The sea view is exceptional, as the Grand Gloria is located directly on the coast. Many guests even enjoy having the outstanding dishes or excellent wines brought to their room and then dining together with family, friends or girlfriends. With a view of the Black Sea, this is a special treat. The wine shown in the picture is 10 years old and has already won an award.

Conclusion

The southern Caucasus with the wine country of Georgia is the oldest wine-growing region in the world. People in the Caucasus began to cultivate and appreciate wine more than 8000 years ago. Since then, the ancient knowledge of wine has been passed down from generation to generation…
