VINCI Airports operates Budapest Airport. The airport has announced that SAS will be returning for the Summer of 2025. SAS will begin a four-times-weekly direct service between Budapest and Copenhagen on 3 April 2025. This will further strengthen the ties between the Hungarian capital and Danish capital. This route will be flown by the airline’s A320 Neo fleet that is the latest in technology, covering the 1,105-kilometer segment.
This new route is a major addition to the existing services that are operated by Norwegian Airlines, Ryanair and Wizz Air. SAS’ arrival in Copenhagen will immediately increase capacity on this popular route by adding 16% to the weekly flights. By the second half of April 2025 the one-way capacity at Budapest Airport to Copenhagen is expected to exceed 4,300 seats per week (based on OAG Analyser for the week starting April 7, 2020).
“We are excited to welcome SAS back to Budapest Airport and expand the airport’s connection to Copenhagen,”
said Máté Ritter, Head of Airline Development of Budapest Airport. The demand for travel from Budapest to the Danish capital is increasing, and the return to SAS will allow us better meet this growing need while enhancing the overall connectivity to Scandinavia. We look forward to the success of this route in the long term and building on the positive momentum that we’ve seen with our Scandinavian offerings.
SAS’s addition to the list of airlines in Budapest means that there are now five airlines that offer scheduled flights to destinations in Denmark and the Nordic region. Passengers can also fly directly to Billund and Oslo, Helsinki, Stockholm and Gothenburg. This provides a comprehensive coverage of Northern Europe. Budapest will be offering more than 300,000 seats departing to Nordic destinations for the Summer 2025 travel season. This reflects the growing importance of this region as a market for leisure and business travellers.
The return of SAS is a sign that SAS has confidence in the Budapest to Copenhagen route, but also demonstrates Budapest’s commitment to expanding its reach internationally, especially in the rapidly growing Scandinavian market. The airport will offer greater flexibility to travellers who want to explore Copenhagen or beyond.
