Cebu is a paradise island – it is a haven for water enthusiasts and one of the most adventurous islands in Southeast Asia. Cebu Province is one the most visited islands of the Philippines. It’s an amazing place to interact with marine biodiversity and natural treasures.
The island has it all – killing beaches, heaven waterfalls and one of the nicest people in this part of the world. Local tourist infrastructure and transportation can accommodate your travel itinerary, even if you’re on a strict schedule.
Cebu travel guide – Getting around
You can use a variety of public transport options once you arrive. Renting a car or scooter for a scenic route will allow you to explore the island at a pace that suits you.
BUS – Local buses is the best transport option I can recommend! They are cheap, comfortable, and run to every destination in the island. The best part is that you don’t have to look for bus stop, you can just stop them on the road.
TAXIS – if you are looking for a more private way of traveling, a taxi is widely accessible in Cebu. However, you won’t be able to see the daily life of the locals.
HABAL-HABAL – the motorcycle taxi is a lot of fun. It’s a local transport. I used it up to a distance of 20 km. They should have a meter or else agree on a price in advance.).
Cebu at its best: When to visit?
The DRY SEASON is between November and May. It’s the perfect time to go on outdoor adventures and to the beach without worrying about rain.
Cebu Island: Best Adventures
- Canyoning in Kawasan Falls and Alegria
Canyoneering is a must for thrill-seekers in Badian. You will be able jump off waterfalls while hiking upriver, swimming in natural pools, and more.
In September 2023, Kawasan Falls were closed for maintenance (this IS NOT unusual), and we were offered Alegria Canyoneering in its place. I can’t tell the difference. The scenery in Alegria is just as beautiful.
- Canyoneering Tour in Kawasan
The entire experience lasts about 3 hours. This includes a safety briefing, registration and a motorbike ride to your starting point. The canyoneering tour includes a number of cliff jumpings from 3 – 8 metres high. I did the 7 metre jump, but skipped the final 8 meter jump (which is the highest) – let’s say due to the low water levels at this time of year. If you don’t feel like jumping, you can take the path down instead. You’ll be doing a lot of rappelling, swimming along the cliffs, sliding, and caving.
- Explore Cebu City
Cebu has a large port and traffic can be very heavy. It’s an important transportation hub, both for sea and air travel. It’s a hub for sea and air travelers. But few know that it has a rich history, with a Spanish and Portuguese flavour. Cebu was the Spanish colonial capital. Ferdinand Magellan arrived in Cebu in 1521. It was almost completely destroyed in World War II, but successfully rebuilt and enlarged. Magellan’s Cross, and the Minor Basilica of the Holy Child of Cebu are two of the top sites.
- Oslob – Swimming with Whale Sharks
Oslob Whale Shark experience lets you swim alongside the gentle giants. Cebu is known for this top attraction that draws travelers from around the globe to the island. I’ve done both snorkeling and diving. Swimming with whale-sharks was the most amazing thing I’ve ever done. These giant and very gentle creatures are swimming right in front of you.
- Moalboal is the best gateway for Cebu adventures
Moalboal, a hub of beach and watersports activities, is a paradise for those who love the outdoors. It’s one of the most populat spots in Cebu Island due to white sand beaches and crystal clear water … and snorkeling with sardine balls! It’s thousands and thousands of sardines swimming in a big ball. It’s really cool! This activity takes place all year long, so you’ll have plenty of chances to witness it. Turtle Bay is where you are more likely to see turtles.
- Tumalog Falls near Oslob
Tumalog Falls is a must-see in any Cebu travel guide. Renting a bike/scooter is the easiest way to go to Tumalog Falls whether you are staying in Tanawan, Oslob, or both. Motorbike taxis are available if you do not want to drive up the hill yourself (just bargain the price and agree in advance). It takes only 10 minutes to drive from Tanawan’s main road (near Whale Shark Watching Point).
