First Spanish settlement founded

Early colonial structures
Fort San Pedro was originally built in wood and rebuilt in stone by 1738. Its defensive structures have survived to this day.

Weather and seasons
- The dry season is from December to may: ideal for beach, diving and hiking.
- Sinulog (3rd sunday of the month) is the peak time for tourists in January.
- The rainy seasons (June-November), is not the best time to go outdoors.
Transport
From the airport, you can connect to Mactan City or nearby islands via Grab, taxi or van. A blue bus is also available. Taxis, Grab and jeepneys are available in the city. Private tours or rented vans are good for excursions.

On Mactan Island there are luxurious resorts like Shangri-La or Mövenpick with beach and spa access.
