The newly built Dara Sakor International Airport opened for domestic charter flights in southwest Cambodia’s Koh Kong Province.

ATR72 turboprop plane successfully landed on the airport after departing from Phnom Penh International Airport. The traditional water salute was used to welcome the first air travel to the coastal province Koh Kong.

Mao Havannall, Minister in Charge of Cambodia’s State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, commended Coastal Airport Investment Co., Ltd. for investing in the Project, saying that this truly reflected investors’ confidence in Cambodia’s political stability, peace and potential for business.

He said: “This is yet another milestone in the development in the civil aviation sector of Cambodia during the welcome ceremony of the first domestic chartered flight to the airport.”

He added that the airport would significantly contribute to the development of the economy, tourism, and industries in Koh Kong in particular as well as in Cambodia generally.

Sinn Chanserey Vutha is the SSCA Undersecretary and Spokesperson. He said that the CAI invested around 200 million US dollars in the first phase of the airport.

The airport is located in the districts Kiri Sakor (Kiri Sakor) and Botum Sakor (Botum Sakor). It can handle seven million passengers annually in the medium term. In the long term, its capacity will increase to twenty million passengers each year from 2030 to 2020, he said.

A spokesperson stated that the airport is open to charter flights from abroad if demand is high. The Dara Sakor International Airport will be the fourth airport in the Kingdom, after the Phnom Penh International Airport and the Siem Reap Angkor International Airport.
