Emirates, the largest international airline in the world, has added a fourth flight daily to the popular route, bringing more connectivity, choice and premium travel options. This follows the announcement of the second A380 daily flight between Dubai to Johannesburg, which was launched on 1st September, reaffirming South Africa as an important part of the airline’s global network.

The fourth daily flight will begin in 2025 on 1 March. It will be operated with a three class Boeing 777-300ER. This will provide 708 extra seats to and from South Africa’s biggest and busiest airport every day. This will broaden the options for both leisure and corporate travellers. EK767 will leave Dubai at 00.10hrs, arriving at Johannesburg at 06.20hrs. EK768, the return flight will depart Johannesburg 10:15hrs and arrive in Dubai 20.15hrs.

Adnan Kazim, Emirates Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer said: “South Africa has long been a highly popular destination for both leisure and business travellers connecting to and through Dubai, and the fourth daily flight enables us to better serve the growing demand for travel to and from the market.

We would like thank the South African government for their support in securing a new service that will restore the capacity we had offered South Africa prior to the pandemic.

This included 49 weekly flights between three gateways. As we reflect on our nearly three decades in the market, we are committed to driving inbound tourism to South Africa. We support the government in their goal to make tourism the leading contributor to economic growth and vehicle for transformation as well as encouraging inward investment to the country.

The fourth daily service will support connectivity between Emirates’ global network, which includes over 140 destinations. This will allow for a better schedule to be optimised, including key destinations like Dubai, Thailand and India, along with European hotspots, such as UK and France, and Germany.

Codeshare and interline agreements between four key partners allow customers to reach 60 more regional points on the continent via the expanded Emirates schedule. Emirates and South African Airways established their first codeshare agreement in 1997. It remains one of the oldest in the airline’s long history. The partnership allows for frictionless travel between all three South African gateways including 12 destinations via Johannesburg. Emirates’ codeshare arrangement with Airlink enables greater connectivity. Cemair, through its interline agreement, provides access for leisure points like Margate and Plettenberg Bay. FlySafair’s agreement allows travel to domestic destinations such as Port Elizabeth and East London. These partnerships offer passengers in Africa greater connectivity to Emirates’ world-class service and product, while also allowing international travellers to explore Africa more easily.

The new flight, which will increase the capacity of the Boeing 777 to carry 300 tonnes of cargo per week, will also enhance passenger travel. Emirates SkyCargo is the airline’s freight division. It transports key commodities such as fresh fruit and vegetables and chilled meats, dairy products, seafood, and fresh cut flower. This helps to stimulate the economy by connecting South African companies with their global clients quickly, reliably, and efficiently. The new flight will provide additional opportunities for moving goods to key locations, such as London Madrid Kuwait Hong Kong and, ofcourse, Dubai.

Emirates has become a partner for South African aviation, tourism, and trade since its inaugural flight to Johannesburg, in June 1995. Since then, Emirates has expanded its operations, increased frequency and gateways in Cape Town and Durban, and served more than 20 million passengers from and to the market. In October 2011, Emirates brought its flagship A380 to Johannesburg. Its world-class services and products were now available in South Africa.

Emirates provides a premium, comfortable experience for its customers traveling in First Class, Business Class, and Skywards members at select membership levels. The airline offers Chauffeur Drive Service at all three gateways to ensure a luxurious and comfortable travel experience for premium travellers.
