During the Vietnam-UAE Business Forum, Emirates signed two Memoranda of Understandings (MoUs). These agreements aim at strengthening connectivity and offering more travel options between Dubai and its Vietnamese Gateways Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi. The MoUs were signed on the sidelines of the Vietnam – UAE Business Forum, held at the Hilton Dubai Palm Jumeirah hotel in Dubai.
Adnan Kazim Adnan, deputy president and chief Commercial Officer of Emirates, was present at the signing ceremony, along with ministers, government leaders and business representatives.
Airline senior-vice-president for commercial operations in the Far East Orhan Abbas delivered a keynote highlighting the airline’s commitment to deepening its presence in Vietnam, a market it has been serving since 2012, supporting trade and tourism links between the UAE and Vietnam, as well as offering customers convenient travel options.
A market with major opportunities
Kazim commented that “enhancement of our cooperation with likeminded partners such as Vietnam Airlines and VietJet” is integral to the core commercial strategy for better connecting customers beyond our own network. Vietnam presents tremendous opportunities for tourism and trade, as it is a key center in Southeast Asia. Emirates supports the UAE Government’s ongoing efforts towards elevating its existing economic ties to Vietnam.
He added that the decades of cooperation with Vietnam Airlines have enabled Emirates enhance connectivity between Vietnam ad Dubai. This new agreement is seen as a chance to explore further elevating ths partnership while also setting up a new strategic collaboration with VietJet.
Kazim concluded with the following statement:
“We are looking forward to expanding our footprint and exploring more opportunities in the future in order to broaden our partnerships.”
What each understanding involves
The MoU between Emirates Airlines and Vietnam Airlines provides the framework for expanding the current cooperation between both airlines. This includes improving connectivity on routes outside the existing interline, as well as adding the potential for reciprocal loyalty benefits. The airlines will also begin exploratory discussions about possible collaborations in cargo and technical services, to create seamless travel experiences for travellers.
The long-standing partnership between Emirates and Vietnam Airlines began in 1994 with a bilateral interline agreement. It has helped connect customers to 12 points on Emirates’ global network as well as 22 domestic and 15 regional points within Vietnam Airline’s system.
VietJet will, on the contrary, explore joint initiatives that will help promote visitor traffic to the UAE from Vietnam and strengthen commercial cooperation between the two carriers. The MoU aims to increase connectivity to popular destinations within VietJet’s regional and domestic network via Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. It also offers VietJet passengers increased access to Emirates’ global networks via its Dubai hub, on a single route and with one baggage policy.
