Gambia can be reached from Europe in around six to seven hours by direct flight, usually via Brussels, Barcelona or London. Prices start at around US $ 170 each way. Bargain hunters can also travel from Poland. Yesterday, the author met a holidaymaker who paid 110 US $ (one way) with Rainbow Tours. A very good price for November 2025!

What does what cost?

A few examples: A litre of diesel/petrol costs around US $1.10, and in small shops you can order a baguette with egg, sausage or chicken for US $ 1. A big bottle of ice cold water in shops cost 25 – 30 GMD.

Hotels are quite affordable, with most room rates starting at around 1,000 GMD/night (approx. US$14). The US dollar is currently trading at around 73 GMD. The Afropolis hotel featured here also offers rooms from around 1,000 Dalasi GMD per night.

Gambia is cheaper than the Canary Islands

Compared to the Canary Islands or the Caribbean, this small country offers significantly cheaper accommodation and living costs and much warmer temperatures.
