The Luxury Collection, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of over 30 extraordinary hotel brands, announces the grand opening of Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Turks & Caicos, the brand’s first property in the Turks and Caicos Islands. The South Caicos Island Luxury Haven is situated on the idyllic beaches of South Caicos Island. Guests are invited to enjoy the natural beauty and world-class activities, fine dining, and cultural experiences.

“The Luxury Collection embodies the art of curation, bringing together an exceptional portfolio of unique hotels in some of the world’s most captivating and unexpected destinations,” says Bruce Rohr, Vice President and Global Brand Leader, The Luxury Collection.

We are thrilled to introduce Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Turks & Caicos as the latest addition to our expanding global footprint, offering travelers a gateway to South Caicos – a serene, lesser-explored corner of the Caribbean known for its picturesque beauty and rich maritime heritage. This resort, with its nature-inspired architecture, elevated culinary adventures, and world-class ecological adventures, epitomizes brand’s destination-first approach, where each property reflects its locale and serves as a portal for authentic cultural discovery.

A Sanctuary shaped by the Elements

The resort’s design, which was created by Edge of Architecture under the direction of 2020 Gold Key Awards designer of the year Malcolm Berg, reflects the essence of South Caicos’ natural landscapes. The resort’s sophisticated design is inspired by the island’s famous salt flats, tropical allure, and cerulean and white hues.

The resort has 100 suites and guest rooms that are well-appointed and made from regional materials like coral stone, sisal and native wood. These materials create a tranquil atmosphere and enhance the connection with the natural surroundings. The openness of the accommodations are enhanced by the large balconies and floor-to-ceiling glass windows that let in plenty of natural light.

Wellness in Harmony With Nature

The Spa at Salterra occupies the center of the resort and is dedicated to rejuvenation and enhancing well-being. The Spa at Salterra offers eight luxurious treatment suites, including two couples suites, as well as a carefully curated collection of world-class treatments that restore balance.

This tropical retreat allows guests to rejuvenate both their mind and body. The spa is inspired by the resort’s oceanic surroundings. It features a multisensory Aqua Thermal Circuit with a Salt Sauna, Steam Room, Aloe Bar, and a revitalizing Hammam. This circuit harnesses the healing effects of the water to wash stress and fatigue away. The spa is a place where guests can relax in the outdoor lounge or soak in the hot-tub.

Epicurean Travels

Every meal at Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Turks & Caicos is an exploration of flavor, culture, and local ingredients. The resort offers six distinct dining experiences that showcase the island’s rich cultural heritage. The Sisal lobby bar offers guests a chance to discover the bounty of the area with its ever-changing menus. These include bites and cocktails that are made with seasonal local ingredients. After a day of exploring the island, guests can unwind with Latin-inspired cuisine and expert mixology set against the stunning backdrop of the resort’s private beach at Cobo Bar & Grill, the resort’s waterfront dining destination.

Brine, the resort’s signature dining establishment, offers a chef’s tasting menu that is expertly paired with a wide selection of wines. The restaurant offers a signature Epicurean Moment menu, which is a 7-course menu that changes with the seasons and is inspired by salt, a prized product deeply rooted in the history of the region. Regatta has a relaxed coastal ambiance, where guests can enjoy British Caribbean Fusion Cuisine with views of the golden hour from the second-story balcony. For casual fare, Flamingo Café offers homemade gelato, local fruit smoothies, and crafted espresso, while Jack & Jenny’s, the resort’s food truck, serves a rotating menu of street food dishes infused with local influences.

World-Class Eco-Experiences

The resort sits by an expansive stretch of untouched white-sand beaches and the protected Admiral Cockburn Land & Sea National Park, offering a diverse array of adventures in unadulterated nature for every type of traveler. South Caicos offers a variety of watersports, including kayaking, bone fishing and whale watching. The calm, crystalline water of South Caicos is ideal for diving or snorkeling. It offers close encounters and opportunities with the local marine life.

Visitors can join guided tours that explore local wildlife, uninhabited island, and natural salt ponds. This immersive experience is perfect for travelers of any age. The resort offers a Salt Discovery Experience as part of its signature Destination Discovery offerings. Guests can travel through the storied salt ponds and learn about their history, while also encountering unique wildlife in this ecosystem. The resort offers coral restoration workshops in partnership the South Caicos Coral Reef Consortium to foster a deeper relationship with the environment.

“Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Turks & Caicos is more than just a resort; it’s a destination where elegance and the spirit of South Caicos intertwine,” Brian King, President of Marriott International’s Caribbean and Latin America (CALA) region, said.

“We are dedicated to offering guests an experience that celebrates the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the island, while offering the unmatched service and luxury synonymous with The Luxury Collection.”

Commitment towards Sustainability

The resort’s commitment to sustainability goes beyond eco-friendly amenities – it’s a core part of the resort’s philosophy. The resort uses the abundant sunshine of South Caicos as a source of energy, and is working to meet more than half of its energy needs with renewable sources. The industrial composting system at Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Turks & Caicos processes food waste, plants, and paper, enriching the surrounding soil and promoting sustainable nutrient reuse.

Recognizing the island’s water restrictions, the resort collects and de-salinates seawater to drink and harvests rainfall for irrigation. In addition, all guest rooms are equipped with filtered water dispensers, which encourage guests to drink responsibly. The resort is dedicated to marine conservation through the Coral Reef Adoption Program. This initiative, developed in partnership with the School for Field Studies (SFS), the Turks & Caicos Reef Fund, and the Reef Institute, invites guests to sponsor segments of the reef, directly contributing to the preservation of vital ecosystems. These sustainable programs aim to aid in the restoration of local coral reefs as well as bird and bonefish population. They also seek to develop innovative solutions for sustainability challenges and preserve natural beauty for future generation.

“This resort is a destination where luxury and sustainability come together in an extraordinary setting,” said Michael Tibbets, Managing Director of Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Turks & Caicos. South Caicos’ untouched beaches and rich culture heritage offer a rare opportunity to reconnect to nature while indulging the finest experiences that the Caribbean has to provide.
