The garden of the historic luxury resort will be transformed into a lunar show this autumn. Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo celebrates romance in the fall, not Valentine’s Day. The luxury urban hotel is hosting a fall event titled “Tokyo Moon” from September to November 2023. Visitors can enjoy the impressive display of the hotel’s historical garden and start their evening with a special high tea menu themed on the moon.
Japan has long had a custom of admiring the full moon, called tsukimi. The autumn moon is considered the most beautiful by the Japanese. Tsukimi festivals, which are held in Japan at the beginning of autumn to show appreciation for the moon, and a good harvest, are held across the country.
In Japanese culture the moon is associated with love. In fact, Natsume Soseki was the writer who, during the Meiji Period, translated “I love you” to ‘tsuki Ga kirei Desu ne’. The pink full moon of June, called the Strawberry Moon, is also said to be a symbol of love.
For the Tokyo Moon display, a collection of mist, typically used for the Tokyo Sea of Clouds, will be used to form the large display. The hotel invites its guests to enjoy a quiet evening in autumn with their loved one under the warm, bright light of the Tokyo Moon.
Shinsuke Yamashita’s General Manager said:
“We are excited to have added this new feature to our garden to allow our guests to enjoy the beauty of a Full Moon throughout the entire Autumn season.”
Lobby lounge Le Jardin will prepare a Tokyo Moon Evening High Tea. This will include roast beef and special tsukimi themed treats, champagne, and more.
