Around 160 firefighters are battling a fire in the thermal pools of a waterpark in Weinheim. The damage is enormous.
Flames several meters high burst out of the roof of the salt and crystal thermal baths of the adventure pool in Weinheim in Baden-Württemberg. Initial police estimates put the damage in the tens or even hundreds of millions.
The fire in Weinheim did not cause any injuries
According to the Fire Department, the employees of the spa discovered a fire on Sunday evening. No one was hurt because they managed to escape to safety. According to the police, however, the spa was almost completely destroyed and partially collapsed in the fire.
According to the fire department 160 firefighters were present to prevent the flames spreading to other parts of the spa. The extinguishing was still going on in the early hours of the morning.
The police have started investigating the exact cause. The adventure pool is expected to remain closed until at least December 9, as stated on the pool website.
