Mumbai airport was affected by heavy rains in the Indian financial capital. Seven flights were forced to make a go-around and two flights were diverted until 8 pm. Officials confirmed that two flights were diverted at the Mumbai airport and seven others had to go around due to bad weather.

Traffic on the road was also slow, and local trains were behind schedule. Spicejet issued a weather advisory to passengers looking to depart from or arrive at Mumbai airport.

Spicejet said in an advisory that due to bad weather in Mumbai (BOM) and heavy rain, all departures/arrivals as well as their consequential flights could be affected. Vistara, on the other hand announced that due to worsening conditions in Mumbai, two flights were rerouted from Mumbai to Hyderabad.

Due to bad conditions at Mumbai airport, Flight UK 941 from Delhi has been diverted and is expected in Hyderabad at 2110 hours. Vistara advised that you should stay tuned for any further updates. Mumbai’s heavy downpours have caused flight cancellations. Air India offers refunds or reschedulings for the 21st of July. Police advise to avoid coastal areas. IMD orange alert in effect. The civic authority recommends staying at home to avoid traffic jams. Alerts are issued for Thane, Palghar and Ratnagiri. The airline encourages passengers to check flight information before going to the airport. The city has experienced heavy rains for several weeks.

After a long absence, heavy rains returned Wednesday to Mumbai and its surrounding areas. The Met department issued a red warning for the city, and warned of “extremely heavy rain”. India Meteorological Department upgraded its orange alert to a red one for Mumbai, a civic official confirmed. The alert is valid until 8.30am on Thursday. Mulund and its surrounding areas have experienced the heaviest rain, inundating the low-lying area. Since Wednesday evening, heavy showers have lashed the island city, slowing road traffic because of water-logging and poor vision. Rains also caused delays in local train services, according to officials.

IMD issued its latest warning at 5.30pm, predicting “extremely heavy rain and thunderstorms with lighting and gusty winds in isolated places” for Mumbai, Thane Raigad and Ratnagiri district.
