The state government announced on Wednesday that Tamil Nadu had showcased its enticing range of tourist destinations at IFTM Top Resa, a popular international tourism fair in Paris. The Tamil Nadu stand at the India pavilion features a striking statue of a “Jallikattu” bull and aspiring young man trying to subdue the bull by hanging onto its hump.
A press release stated that Jawed Ashraf, the Ambassador of India to France and C Samayamoorthy (the TN Tourism commissioner) inaugurated the Tamil Nadu Stand on September 17 in presence of TN Tourism commissioner, C Samayamoorthy. IFTM Top Reza 2024, one of the most prominent travel exhibitions, will be held in Paris between September 17 and 19, 2024.
Jallikattu has a long history in Tamil Nadu and is also a cultural and economic activity for the local people. The theme of the attractions in Tamil Nadu is based on ancient classifications of landscapes – ‘Kurinji Mullai Marutham Neithal Palai’.
The Indian Heritage Hoteliers Association is urging the Union government to adopt an Indian heritage tourism policy. The 11th Annual Convention of the IHHA will discuss this issue and others, such as improving infrastructure and connectivity surrounding tourist sites. The event is scheduled for September 19-20 in Tamil Nadu.
Kurinji refers to hills and mountains, Mullai to forests, Marutham to agricultural eco-systems, and the regions that are close to the sea or ocean are Neithal, while Palai is an arid, wasteland.
