IndiGo’s first-ever long haul flights to Europe mark a significant milestone for its expansion strategy. The airline will begin non-stop flights to Amsterdam and Manchester in July 2025. This will mark its entry into the global aviation market and strengthen its position as a major player.

The new routes are designed to provide seamless connectivity for travelers between India and Europe. They will also cater to the increasing demand between the two regions. Manchester will be the sole direct link between India and the North of UK, whereas Amsterdam will serve as the gateway to the Netherlands. These destinations are the latest additions IndiGo’s rapidly growing international network which already covers domestic India and Asia.

IndiGo’s entry into long-haul operations is in line with its vision of transforming India into a global aviation center by 2030. Over the last two years, the airline has steadily built its presence in Europe by establishing codeshare partnerships that connect multiple European cities with India. The introduction non-stop flights from India to Amsterdam and Manchester is a major step in the airline’s journey.

IndiGo’s long-haul ambitions have led it to enter into a damp leasing agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways, for Boeing 787-9 aircraft. The first aircraft entered service on March 1, 2025. Three additional planes will join the fleet in the latter part of this year. These aircraft will help IndiGo establish a foothold on the European market, while it awaits the delivery of Airbus A321 XLR or A350-900 aircraft in 2027.

IndiGo will begin operating on the Delhi-Bangkok routes with a Boeing B787-9 Widebody aircraft starting March 1, 2025. The flight will be equipped with the airline’s IndiGoStretch premium service, which offers a more comfortable journey. Exclusive meals and beverages are provided by Oberoi Catering. IndiGo’s international expansion and commitment to promoting Indian products globally are reflected in this move.

Pieter Elbers (Chairman and CEO of IndiGo) expressed his excitement about the new routes: “Today, IndiGo opens a brand new chapter in its growth journey, connecting India with the heart of Europe.”

We’re thrilled to announce our first-ever long-haul destinations – Manchester and Amsterdam. India shares strong ties both with the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands. These ties are driven by tourism, business, and the large Indian diaspora. These flights will benefit both our existing and future customers, bringing India closer to our vision of becoming a global aviation hub.

Elbers also emphasized the historical significance of Amsterdam, noting that India and the Netherlands have rich trade and cultural links. He continued: “The United Kingdom represents an important market to us, and we are excited to announce the direct flights between India, and Manchester.”

IndiGo intends to operate three weekly services to both Manchester and Amsterdam. The airline plans to increase frequency and explore further expansion in other key European market with the additions of Norse Atlantic Airways aircraft later this summer.
