IndiGo, India’s leading airline, announced that direct flights would be launched from Pune to Bangkok, Thiruvananthapuram and other destinations. Pune-Bangkok will be the first international direct service from Pune starting November 22, 2024. These new flights are designed to offer a seamless travel experience. IndiGo will be the only airline to offer direct flights between Thiruvananthapuram and Pune, with operations beginning on October 27, 2024. Additionally, IndiGo has recently enhanced connectivity on key domestic routes from Pune, including Pune–Bhopal, Pune–Chennai, Pune–Ahmedabad, Pune–Indore, and Pune–Raipur, further strengthening the city’s role as a significant travel hub.

After Thai Airways launched its bilateral flights, its subsidiary Thai Smile along with major Indian airlines such as IndiGo SpiceJet and Go First also launched their flights. Direct connections under the air bubble agreement are between Thai capital Bangkok & Phuket, and key metro cities in India – Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and Bengaluru.

Pune, a major IT and manufacturing hub in India, is also called the “Oxford of the East”, due to its importance in education. It is also the second largest software hub in India.
