IndiGo, India’s leading airline, announced a significant expansion in its long-haul operation with the signing of an agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways for a firm damp leasing of three Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
These aircraft will arrive in India during the second half 2025. They will be deployed to long-haul routes and further expand IndiGo’s network internationally. This agreement follows another similar deal signed on 6 February 2025 for a Boeing 787-9 that will begin operations on IndiGo’s Delhi-Bangkok routes from March 1, 2025.
IndiGo will now have four Boeing 787-9s under damp lease with Norse Atlantic Airways. Both airlines are exploring other opportunities to expand their partnership and contract additional aircraft in order to meet the growing demand for international travel.
Pieter Elbers (CEO of IndiGo) said: “We’re delighted to confirm that our partnership will be extended with Norse Atlantic Airways in order to damp lease three additional Boeing 787-9. This will help us establish the brand and make strategic inroads in the European market. As we execute our strategy to strengthen our international network and drive continuous expansion, we are steadily progressing towards our vision of being a global leader by 2030.”
The initial term is six months. This can be extended to 18 months if regulatory approvals are granted. Both parties are committed to exploring ways to extend this period further and expand their partnership.
IndiGo’s expansion of long-haul flights is a crucial part of its strategy in order to meet the increasing demand for international travel from and to India. The airline is also planning for future growth by placing a firm 30 Airbus A350 wide-body aircraft order, with the option of an additional 70. Deliveries will begin in 2027.
