On Wednesday, several international airlines cancelled flights from and to Indonesia’s resort Island of Bali, following further eruptions by a volcano which has sent ash clouds up to 10 km (32 808 ft).

Jetstar, Qantas and AirAsia have cancelled flights on Wednesday to Bali due to volcanic ash. Flightradar24 also shows that Virgin and AirAsia have also cancelled flights.

Singapore Airlines announced that it had cancelled its flight from Bali to Singapore on Wednesday due to the volcanic eruption. Bali is Indonesia’s top tourist destination, and is also a popular Australian destination.

Antara, Indonesia’s official news agency, reported that all flights to and from Lombok, in the West Nusa Tenggara Province, another popular tourist destination, were also canceled.

A local airport spokesperson confirmed this, according to Antara. At least nine people died in the first Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki eruption on November 3 in East Nusa Tenggara, located about 800 km (497miles), from Bali. Since then, it has erupted numerous times, including on Tuesday.

Ahmad Syaugi Shahab is the general manager of Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport. He said that from Nov. 4 to 11, 80 flights were cancelled in Bali, including those from Singapore, Hong Kong and several Australian cities. Indonesia has more than 130 active volcanoes.

It is located on the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, a region of high seismic activity, atop different tectonic plate. Authorities say that the ash column from Mount Lewotobi reaches up to 10 km high and that sandfall has covered the surrounding area.
