Intrepid Travel is an adventure travel company based in Australia with operations in India. This year, the company announced that it would be hiring around 15 female tour guides to its India team. Intrepid Travel’s new pool of leaders will include 32 female leaders, bringing the female representation at Intrepid India to 40%.
In a statement, the company said that its mission was to raise awareness about the importance of having a diverse workplace within an organization and empower women in travel and advance gender equity. Rama Mahendru is the country general manager for India at Intrepid Travel. She said of the hirings: “Female tour guides serve as role-models, inspiring other females to pursue careers within the travel and tourism industries.
A balanced team of female and male leaders will improve customer service, and can cater to a greater range of needs. Women tour leaders make female travellers more comfortable and secure. This encourages more women travel. We also want to emphasize the importance of diversity in the workplace.
“We would love to achieve a 50:50 ratio of females and males by 2025.”

Intrepid Travel India had set a goal for this year of having 40 percent women leaders and 60 per cent male leaders. They achieved that goal. The company aims to have a 50:50 parity between male and female tour leaders by the year 2025.
This will reflect the company’s commitment to gender equity and create more opportunities for woman in the travel business. Intrepid Travel India has female leaders from all over India. These include Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Assam, Nagaland, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
