Israel’s Ministry of Tourism has launched a digital eVisa system, which will be available to Indian travelers from January 1, 2025. This new system simplifies the visa application by eliminating physical paperwork. This is an important step in Israel’s commitment to improving tourism accessibility and strengthening relations with India.
The eVisa system allows Indian nationals apply for visas completely online, allowing a faster and more efficient application process. The official Israeli government portal allows applicants to complete the process from anywhere and at any time. The system is also convenient for tourists, as it has fewer documentation requirements. However, group visa requests will continue to follow the traditional method.
This eVisa platform integrates with Israel’s Entry Travel Authorization system (ETA), ensuring streamlined processing. The user-friendly platform focuses on enhancing the experience of travelers while maintaining security standards.
India is a major market for Israel’s tourist industry. “In 2018, Israel hosted 70,800 Indian tourists, a record. Although the COVID-19 epidemic disrupted travel worldwide, Indian arrivals began to recover in 2022 and reached 30,900 despite minimal marketing campaigns. In 2023, 41,800 Indians visited the country. Amruta Banera, India Director of Marketing at the Israel Ministry of Tourism, told PTI that 8,500 Indians will travel to Israel between January and October 2024.
Israel’s Ministry of Tourism (IMOT), which currently offers this digital solution only to Indian citizens, plans to expand it to all foreigners, enhancing its reputation as a tourist-friendly and forward-thinking destination.
The introduction is part of Israel’s broader efforts to improve entry procedures for foreign visitors. The country had a record 4.9 million international tourists in 2019. Israel received over 2.6 millions tourists in 2022, and 3.1 in 2023. In 2024 the number of tourists from abroad to Israel was 920,000 in January and October.
