JetBlue is adding even more services and low fares to “La Isla del Encanto”, with new flights from San Juan St. Croix.
SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO – JetBlue celebrated the opening of its brand-new crew base at San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) – its first outside the continental U.S., bringing hundreds of jobs with it. JetBlue continues to grow and celebrate today, as it launches flights from Puerto Rico’s vibrant capital city to St. Croix, in the U.S. Virgin Islands. This is a further investment by JetBlue in the Caribbean.
JetBlue’s newly-opened San Juan crew base will bring more than 400 jobs to Puerto Rico. More than 100 pilots, and more than 300 flight attendants are expected to be assigned to this base by the end of next year. The base for inflight crew members opened today, while San Juan-based Pilots are expected to join the base in early 2025. The base is located in Terminal A of San Juan’s Airport. It will allow crewmembers from the island to start and end their trips, support the airline’s operations throughout Puerto Rico, Caribbean and beyond, and ensure that these workgroups are able to quickly respond in case of operational disruptions. The crew base will open in San Juan, following the opening of JetBlue Tech Ops in 2020.
Warren Christie, JetBlue’s chief operating office, said that the company was proud to celebrate such an important milestone. The new crew base is a testament to our commitment to investing into the communities we serve. It creates opportunities for crewmembers to return to San Juan, and for those who wish to travel to the Caribbean.
“We are happy that JetBlue is continuing to bet on Puerto Rico.”
“We are proud of the strategic alliance that JetBlue has with Puerto Rico. It reinforces the airline’s commitment to the island, and its people. Our tourism has seen record growth over the past four-years, and this is just one more sign of good news for our people,” stated Puerto Rico Governor Pedro R. Pierluisi.
Providing reliable, affordable travel options to our customers is a crucial part of the growth of the tourism industry and we are thrilled to be part this new phase in JetBlue’s Puerto Rico history. The opening confirms the airline’s commitment to Puerto Rico. It also enhances both the increase of frequency of flights and the new opportunities for the expansion of the network from domestic markets and international markets which benefit the local economies.
JetBlue has served Puerto Rico for over 22 years. The airline flies from the island to 18 destinations. JetBlue has added 70 new jobs to its team with over 50 daily departures during peak winter periods.
JetBlue celebrates its inaugural flight today from San Juan to St. Croix, adding to its growth in Puerto Rico. St. Croix, part of the U.S. Virgin Islands blends vibrant culture with natural beauty. Visitors can explore historic sites, lush gardens and charming streets or relax on pristine beaches such as Protestant Cay or Rainbow Beach. St. Croix is a Caribbean getaway that offers a vibrant art scene and a variety of adventures.
Christie said: “We are thrilled to be reentering St. Croix. It is known for its rich culture, stunning beaches, as well as great people.” “Our new route between San Juan to St. Croix shows our commitment to serve the Caribbean, connecting U.S. Virgin Islands to our San Juan Focus City as well as our robust network beyond it.”
JetBlue has added St. Croix to its network. JetBlue currently offers daily flights between San Juan and St. Thomas, as well as seasonal winter flights between Boston and St. Thomas.
“Today’s flights, which travel just over 94 mile, provide depth in the connectivity of St. Croix not only to Puerto Rico, but to the broader Caribbean Region and the mainland United States,” shared Commissioner Joseph Boschulte of U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism.
“We are excited about the continued growth of JetBlue’s relationship and look forward to welcoming even more passengers.”
JetBlue relaunches service to St. Croix as part of its significant network enhancements at San Juan, and focuses on leisure routes and VFR (visiting family and friends) routes. This is in line with JetForward, the airline’s JetForward strategic plan.
