Lufthansa has recently celebrated a significant milestone: the 65th anniversary since its inaugural flight between Hamburg and Bangkok.
This milestone highlights the airline’s long-standing commitment towards the Thai market and Mekong Region, connecting cultures, facilitating travel, and fostering relationships between Germany, Thailand, and Germany.
Felipe Bonifatti, vice-president Asia-Pacific & joint ventures east at Lufthansa Group, said:
“This anniversary demonstrates our commitment to serving our customers by connecting them to the world. Bangkok remains a vital destination for us and we look forward in continuing to improve our services while we celebrate the rich Lufthansa heritage in Thailand.
We have a history that spans more than 60 years and operate more flights to Thailand compared to any other European airline group. We are also delighted to have just resumed A380 service to Bangkok last month.”
A historic first
The first Lufthansa flight to Thailand left Hamburg, Germany from the 1st of November 1959. This event marked the beginning of a new era in international air travel.
LH640, then known as the Super Constellation, took off for the Far East from Hamburg via Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Rome, Cairo, Karachi and Calcutta to Thailand on a spectacular journey that lasted nearly two days.
Since then, it has continued to expand its service offerings and ensure a seamless travel for passengers.
A commitment to ongoing engagement
Today, Lufthansa operates multiple weekly flights between Europe and Thailand, providing exceptional service and convenience to travellers via its hubs in Munich, & Frankfurt.
The Lufthansa Group’s airlines connect Thailand to Europe via hubs in Zurich or Vienna, with up to 31 flights per week between Thailand and Europe. As the airline continues to develop its services, the commitment of Lufthansa to innovation and sustainability is at the forefront.
Lufthansa has a commitment to provide a safe and enjoyable travel experience to Thai travellers. This includes modernising their fleet and implementing eco-friendly measures.
As Lufthansa looks to the future, it is focused on improving its connections and the travel experience of passengers. Let’s celebrate another 65 years of excellence on the skies.
