The validation flight was a crucial step in the aerodrome license process. It was completed successfully on 9 December 2024. IndiGo conducted this flight to verify the airport’s navigational aids, approach procedures and air traffic systems. It also confirmed compliance with the safety and operational standards required for commercial usage.

Kinjarapu Naidu, Minister of Civil Aviation observed this accomplishment. The validation flight was preceded by earlier milestones including the calibration of Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) as well as Precision Approach Path Indicators (PAPI), conducted in October by the Airports Authority of India, under the DGCA’s supervision. The RNP (Required Navigator Performance) simulator tests were also successfully completed.

Christoph Schnellmann (CEO of Noida International Airport) said: “The validation flights are a proud day for our team. They reflect the planning and dedication invested in ensuring that the airport is ready.”

“We are excited to be moving closer to the airport opening and look forward in welcoming passengers.”

The validation flight was conducted using an Airbus A320 to test RNP and ILS procedures. RNP specifications ensure that aircraft can follow highly accurate flight routes, ensuring precision and security during operations.

NIA has now reached a major milestone. It will now complete its documentation for aerodrome approval, which will be submitted to Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

The validation flight builds on earlier milestones including the successful calibration in October 2024 of the Precision Approach Path Indicator and Instrument Landing System systems. These systems are supported by Airports Authority of India, DGCA and ensure the highest safety standards in aircraft operations.

IndiGo’s first test flight was celebrated by a ceremonial water-cannon salute. This signified a new beginning for the civil aviation industry in Uttar Pradesh.

On 25 November 2021, Prime Minister Narendra modi and Chief Minister Yogi adityanath laid the foundation stone for Jewar Airport. This will be the 5th international airport for the state, along with those in Lucknow Varanasi Ayodhya and Kushinagar.

The opening of the airport is expected to spur economic growth in regions such as Gautam Buddha Nagar (Gautam Buddha Nagar), Aligarh, Bulandshahr Ghaziabad and Greater Noida.

Uttar Pradesh, which has the highest number airports of any state in India, has become a hub of connectivity.
