The Pacific Tourism Organisation is working with Trove Tourism to develop a Digital Measurement and Benchmarking Platform. It contains sustainable and digital marketing metrics.
This activity has been funded by the New Zealand Government through the Pacific Digital Tourism Transformation Project, Phase 2. The DMBP is a tool that facilitates data analysis and reporting in real time.
Earlier this week, the online virtual training DMBP was conducted by SPTO’s lead digital specialist Danny Cohanpour, and Shubham Katuria from Trove Tourism Development Advisors. SPTO staff, including Prashil Parkeras, Kiniviliame Raicebe and Shayneel Nrayan, Tarusila Ratuvakalevulevu and Catherine Mara and John Rosa, attended.
The training was designed to familiarise SPTO with Power BI, including the Frontend (User Interface & Visualization) as well as the Backend (Data Processing and Management).
Power BI, a Microsoft business analytics tool, allows users to connect with various data sources, transform the data, and create interactive dashboards and reports.
The DMBP, which will be launched by the Tourism Stakeholders on 13th November, will provide valuable insights into the tourist behaviour and resource utilisation of tourists, as well as destination performance. This will help tourism stakeholders make informed decisions and formulate policies.
What is the DMBP?
The DMBP, with its customizable features and user-friendly design, empowers destinations to influence data driven strategies for enhancing sustainability in the global market and increasing competitiveness.
The DMBP are a series of measurable metrics including environmental, socio-economic, and digital marketing indicator, designed to monitor, assess, and promote sustainable development in the Pacific Island Nations.
Christopher Cocker, CEO of SPTO, said that the training will ensure that SPTO staff is well-equipped to maintain dashboards independently.
Cocker said:
“The dashboard simplifies the data reporting by visualisations. Complex information is made more accessible and engaging.”
Displaying sustainability indicators in an online Dashboard allows for real-time decision-making and monitoring, helping National Tourism Offices and Tourism Organizations throughout the Pacific Region to track and identify areas of improvement.
In the second half of this year, National Tourism Organisations (NTOs), across the Pacific, will be given a demonstration and training on the platform. This will include how to use the platform for visualising their marketing, sustainability, and statistics data, and benchmarking their performance against other regions.
