An urban retreat located in arguably the best location in all of Palma, Can Alomar is a 19th-century former palace that has undergone a light-touch refurbishment.
Designed by interior architect Cristina Marti – the wife of Miguel Conde, Founder of It Mallorca – the hotel now has a refreshed look with vibrant pops of color throughout, adding a lively twist to its contemporary and classic design. The rooftop terrace of the hotel, with its 360-degree views of Palma and its classic design, is one of its most notable features. It further solidifies its status as one the best hotels in Palma.
Located right in the heart of the city’s historic centre, Can Alomar is known for its prime location within walking distance of Palma’s iconic cathedral and the city’s most elegant streets: Paseo del Borne and Carrer de Sant Feliu. Can Alomar guests are surrounded by tall trees, historic buildings, fountains and stone sphinxes.
Below, take a look at the hotel’s light-touch refurbishment. Can Alomar offers rooms that are still available for booking in October, November and beyond.
Rooms
The 16 rooms of the hotel are all painted in a calming and soft sand colour. Rich chocolate-coloured velvet drapes cover the windows. Bold coral rugs, headboards and scatter cushions are used to inject colour into the guest rooms. DCW Editions designed bedside lamps.
De Tokio a Lima Restaurant
De Tokio a Lima is a trendy gourmet restaurant located within the hotel and offers a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian flavours with a Mediterranean twist. Taking inspiration from Asian, South American, and Mediterranean kitchens, the flavours and techniques wow local and visiting foodies alike.
De Tokio A Lima, as part of its light-touch refurbishment, has placed new Japanese-style lamps either side of a famous piece of artwork by Roland Fisher. The new lights by local supplier, Decágono, are cleverly placed to create atmospheric shadows on the ceiling and highlight the artwork around the restaurant.
The lounge area also received an upgrade. Four additional armchairs have been added to the lounge, which are more modern and contrast with the sofas. Modern in style and in colour – candy and rust – the updated lounge area elevates the space. The outside area of De Tokio a Lima now features copper-coloured sofas by TRIBÚ to give the outdoor terrace a pop of colour.
Rooftop
The rooftop is a great place to relax on the new and improved sun loungers, or to take a dip in either the rooftop hot tub or plunge pool. The rooftop now has a covered area that will provide more shade during sunny days.
Up another level, guests can enjoy an aperitif, or even a spa treatment, while enjoying the view of Palma Bay. They can also admire the gothic church and Tramuntana Mountains.
Artwork
The addition of artworks by Roland Fischer, Manolo Balesteros, Guillem Nádal and Carlos Irijalba will bring a wave to the emotions of art lovers. As soon as guests enter Can Alomar, they will be able to see one of Roland Fischer’s paintings. His illusionistic “Chinese Pool Portraits”, which are meant to reflect the artist’s desire for the protagonist to be isolated from their geographical context, are meant to respond.
Nadal’s works are a long, introspective journey into the chaos of nature. The artist explores themes that are deeply connected to the unconscious, and sometimes brutal, actions of humanity. De Tokio a Lima diners can see one of his pieces hanging above one of the tables.
Ballesteros’ energetic and dynamic works are hidden in Can Alomar’s halls. The artist lets his painting express itself by letting it be a combination of form and brushwork. He gives priority to colour, gesture, and emotion.
Irijalba is influenced by the principle pertinence. This is the necessity or superfluity of an object in order to cohabit with the existing world. You can also find one of his works in the De Tokio at Lima lounge.
