South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared that tourists from Nigeria can now apply for visas without the need to submit their passports. Speaking at the opening of the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) in Cape Town on Tuesday, Ramaphosa highlighted the efforts made by South Africa to streamline its visa application process to enhance travel for Nigerian tourists and business professionals.

The introduction of multiple-entry visas valid for five years is available to eligible Nigerian business travellers.

“Our initiatives to create an inviting environment include simplifying the Visa process for Nigerians traveling to South Africa on business.”

He explained that those who qualify could receive a five year multiple entry visa. The President reaffirmed South Africa’s dedication to eliminating obstacles to increased investment, and addressing the business challenges in both nations. “As we mark 30 years of diplomatic relations with South Africa, we look forward to a prosperous future. He noted that the strong ties of friendship which exist between our two countries are a solid base for a greater economic collaboration.

Ramaphosa acknowledged the fact that Nigeria hosts many South African businesses and stressed that South Africa remains open for Nigerian investment, as evidenced in the large number of business operations that have been established in the country.

“However, more work needs to be done.”

He said that we must remove the remaining obstacles for increased investment and address some of the challenges faced by firms.

The South African leader has praised the Nigerian Government for its reforms, which aim to create an environment more favorable for business and offer assurances to South Africans and other investors.

“We look forward to seeing more Nigerian business invest in South Africa”

he said. Ramaphosa also said that the G20 agenda would include a prominent focus on Africa’s development and issues affecting the Global South.

This will be the first time that the G20 Leaders’ Summit is held on African soil. We aim to rally support for the African Union’s Agenda 2063 as we push for an inclusive global agenda,” he concluded.
