Qatar Airways Cargo – the world’s most successful air cargo carrier – is proud to announce a strategic partnership with MASkargo – the cargo airline and subsidiary company of Malaysia Aviation Group.
This partnership, which was inaugurated today by Mr Mark Drusch of Qatar Airways Cargo and Mr Mark Jason Thomas of MASkargo, marks a milestone in improving global cargo connectivity and operational efficiencies.
The collaboration, which began officially on 1 October 2024 has already seen the successful transport of approximately 2,400 tons of cargo. This includes over 600 tonnes perishables, and 130 tonnes pharmaceuticals.
Qatar Airways Cargo Boeings 777 will now operate flights from Doha, Malaysia to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia twice a weekly. This increases the cargo capacity by more than 200 tonnes per week. The strategic partnership will improve connectivity and efficiency for Sydney and Melbourne, with MASkargo Airbus A330 cargo planes carrying more than 75 tons of weekly cargo capacity.
Connection time to Kuala Lumpur is only eight hours. The strategic hubs of Hamad International Airport, DOH, and Kuala Lumpur International Airport, KUL will play a key role in providing seamless connections and modern handling facilities.
Both parties benefit from the agreement. MASkargo can access key points in Europe and GCC, Levant, and Africa. Qatar Airways Cargo has increased capacity to Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia. It also supports Kuala Lumpur’s local market by enabling exports to more global markets.
Mark Drusch, Chief Officer Cargo of Qatar Airways Cargo said: “As a leading global air cargo airline, this partnership with MASkargo demonstrates our commitment to provide exceptional service and tailored solution while expanding our global networks through strategic alliances.
“By combining strengths, we can offer our customers enhanced efficiency and connectivity, ensuring that their products reach global market in optimal condition.”
We are excited about this collaboration and remain committed in setting the standard for air cargo excellence.
MASkargo Chief Executive Officer, Mark Jason Thomas, added: “Today marks an exciting step forward for MASkargo as we join forces with Qatar Airways Cargo to create a truly interconnected global cargo network. This partnership represents a major advancement in MASkargo’s mission to connect customers to the world faster and more efficiently.
“With this partnership MASkargo has now been better positioned to serve as a link between South East Asia, and key international destinations. This alliance with Qatar Airways Cargo enhances our infrastructure and capability, enabling us to support the region’s economy and facilitate the transportation of high-demand products to a wider global market. We also set new standards in cargo transport”.
Qatar Airways Cargo, MASkargo and a Memorandum of Understanding were signed in July 2024. The MoU was to provide a better product to cargo customers while achieving operational synergies. This strategic joint cargo agreement allows both airlines leverage each other’s fleet capacity and network strengths, thereby significantly increasing cargo offering.
Qatar Airways and Malaysia Airlines have a strong partnership that extends beyond cargo. Both airlines, as members of the oneworld partnership, have a strong relationship on the passenger side.
The codeshare agreement that includes 62 destination in Malaysia, South East Asia Australia New Zealand, Middle East, Europe, Americas and Africa, is a testament to their commitment to provide seamless travel experiences. The strategic MoU, signed in 2022, further enhances the partnership by facilitating a greater number of flight options and destinations.
