International Airlines Group (IAG) has opened applications for the 2025 IAGi Accelerator Programme. The annual programme, originally launched as Hangar 51 in 2016, identifies and tests technologies that can solve challenges within the aviation industry.

This year’s accelerator will be looking for start ups that specialise in artificial intelligence, automation, sustainability and customer-focused platforms. It will also include next-generation computing technologies and connectivity. The goal is to boost operational efficiencies and productivity across IAG operating companies.

For the first time, the programme will offer two distinct pathways designed for global start-ups at different stages of their development: a 12-week ‘Deploy’ programme for start-ups with solutions that are ready to test, and a 24-week ‘Discover’ programme designed for early-stage businesses.

  • Deployment: During the 12-week Accelerator, participants will work with experts from IAG’s five airlines and two complementary businesses in order to test their technology and conduct a proof of value.
  • Discover: A new 24-week programme aimed at early-stage sustainability start-ups that are developing breakthrough technologies with high impact potential for aviation. This includes sustainable aviation, carbon removal, alternative to single-use materials, and fuel efficiency.

Jorge Saco, IAG’s Chief Information, Procurement, Services and Innovation Officer, said: “Innovation remains key to IAG’s ongoing efforts to transform air travel for customers, our employees, and the environment. The IAGi Accelerator, unlike many accelerator programmes, goes beyond mentoring by finding and testing new solutions to complex business challenges which can be scaled up across our Group. This year’s programme offers a wider range of opportunities to applicants. It provides start-ups in different stages of their journey with the opportunity to collaborate with experts across our operating company to gain a better understanding of the industry and explore possible partnerships or commercial opportunities.”

Earlier this month, the Group announced it will invest up to €200 million in high-potential companies through, IAGi Ventures, the new corporate venturing arm of IAG. This funding is expected to be the largest investment of its kind in the world and the biggest European airline group. It reflects IAG’s commitment to using innovative technologies to transform its business and create better customer experience, increased operational efficiencies and more sustainable aircraft.

IAGi Ventures works closely with the IAGi Programme Accelerator. The IAGi Accelerator is open to all start-ups and does not require equity for participation. Interested start-ups can learn more and apply through the IAGi website. Early applications are encouraged, as submissions will reviewed on a continuous basis with a final deadline of 30th April 2025.

Previous start-ups that IAG has worked with during the accelerator programme include: Ecovadis, a company providing detailed business sustainability ratings; Assaia, a company that specialises in optimising airport and airline operations using AI; Twelve, a company using pioneering technology to turn CO₂ into sustainable aviation fuel; and Quantum Metric, a company harnessing AI to improve customers’ digital experience.
