Satna is now the 7th airport of MP. The DGA has issued the licence to the airport on Monday, giving it a boost for tourism, business and travel in the Vindhya region in Madhya Pradesh. Soon, the formal inauguration of Satna airport and flights will begin.
Initial operations will accommodate aircraft with 19 seats, with the potential for expansion in the future based on passenger demand. The development of the airport aligns with govt’s scheme UDAN, which aims to enhance regional air connectivity.
Satna Airport, which has been modernised, will operate according to Visual Flight Rules. It is equipped with advanced navigation and security technologies. The airport’s strategic position will serve the entire Rewa Division and nearby districts.
This pre-independence facility, located in Satna, a district approximately 520 km north of Bhopal was managed by the state public works department. Airports Authority of India now has operational and maintenance responsibility.
AAI began the airport’s development on January 20, 2024. They constructed a 1200x30m runway, modern terminal, ATC towers, aprons, taxiways, and a fire station. Security installations include X ray machines, ETDs, CCTV systems, DFMDs, HHMDs, communication equipment, RT-SET and RT-SET.
Passenger amenities are check-in counters and surveillance systems. They also include Flight Information Display System, a PA System, Reserve Lounges, and Flight Information Display System.
Local businesses expect to see increased trade opportunities as a result of improved air connectivity. The airport operation will generate employment in aviation and related sectors. The tourism potential in the area could grow significantly with regular air service.
The airport will initially focus its efforts on connecting major cities in Madhya Pradesh as well as neighbouring states. Flight schedules will be planned to optimize connectivity and passenger comfort. Airlines are evaluating routes to establish viable air service.
This development is a major milestone in the transportation infrastructure of the region. The design of the modern terminal building incorporates energy-efficient and sustainable practices.
