WorldVia Travel Group has released its forecast of travel trends in 2025. These travel trends provide valuable insight into the changing preferences of consumers as well as the shifting industry practices. Travel advisors can use these insights to better anticipate their clients’ needs and deliver services that are in line with the expectations of modern travelers.
Jason Block has identified the top five trends that will impact the travel industry by 2025. These key trends highlight the industry’s remarkable expansion, spotlight new top destinations and examine changing demographics of travelers.
1. Unique Destinations are on the Rise. While it is rare to find destinations that sell out, some locations will be at their maximum capacity by 2025. Antarctica, for instance, is experiencing an increase in popularity thanks to new flyin experiences and more affordable choices, making the continent’s innermost regions more accessible and possibly increasing tourism. Safari experiences continue to flourish, although availability during the “Great Migration Season” in Kenya and Tanzania can be difficult to secure, particularly with top providers.
Block stated that Asia would be the fastest growing region in 2025. This includes Japan, South Korea Thailand, Bhutan, and Vietnam. “Japan is becoming more popular because it’s accessible and familiar to Westerners, while South Korea, Thailand, and Bhutan are gaining popularity among adventurous travelers and those who have already visited other parts of Asia.
2. Block says that solo travel in 2025 will be dominated by Gen Z and Millennials. Block predicted that 2025 would be a breakthrough year for solo travellers, including group departures tailored to them. This trend is gaining traction among younger Millennials, as well as older Gen Z travelers. It is poised to become mainstream. It is a great way to connect with people and share experiences in an increasingly digital age.
3. In 2025, river cruises will be more immersive and longer. Travelers are becoming more interested in longer itineraries which allow them to explore their destinations more deeply. AmaWaterways and other river cruise lines are responding to the trend by extending their European cruise seasons. They will depart as early as February 2020. Block explains further that “there is a growing focus on experiential travel. This provides guests with more opportunities to engage in intimate experiences and deeper engagement with local culture.”
4. Growth in Aviation – Airline profitability will continue to increase in 2025. At the same time, passenger demand is expected to surge, outpacing capacity expansion. This will result in a higher passenger load factor. Block noted that the aviation industry will experience significant growth with more departures, and a demonstrable increase in business travel. “These factors will likely drive up average airfares as we approach summer of 2025, along with capacity challenges, rising operating costs and a strong U.S. Dollar.”
5. Luxury All-Inclusive Experiences: In 2025, travelers should also expect an increase in the number of all-inclusive resorts that offer unique and luxurious experiences. Leading brands like Marriott, Hyatt, and Hilton are expanding all-inclusive offerings to cater to wealthy families and discerning travellers. These resorts are moving away from traditional buffet-style offers and focusing on unique experiences and personalization, offering guests more curated and high-quality dining and activities.
