Tesla, according to reports, wants to produce its facelifted Model Y from China in 2025. A six-seater version will be introduced in addition to the visual innovations. Will Tesla introduce a facelifted Model Y by 2025? According to Chinese media reports, Tesla plans to begin production of the revised SUV in China in January.
The facelift goes by the internal code name, “Juniper”. The Giga Shanghai factory will deliver a three-row six-seater Model Y SUV in the fourth quarter 2025, along with the revised version.
According to the online portal “Car News China”, the new six-seater Model Y could have a similar seating arrangement as the Model X, with two rows of individual seats in the front and a bench seat in the third row.
Production to begin in 2025
Reuters reported back in September that Tesla had plans to produce a six passenger version of the Model Y car in China by 2025. The company has reportedly told its suppliers to be prepared for a significant increase of production at the Shanghai factory and to aim for double digit growth.
New look with technical adjustments
According to “LatePost”, there will be a similar update to the Model 3 Highland. This includes changes to interior and exterior design, such as narrower headlights and c-shaped tail lights, as well as a cockpit without a steering column lever. It also includes improvements to battery capacity, engine performance, and self-driving technologies.
The company has yet to confirm the reports. Tesla will adjust production efficiency, but it is not certain. The Model Y is not only produced in China, but also in Grünheide near Berlin and in the US plants in California and Texas. It is not yet clear when production will move there. It is not yet known when we will see the facelift.
Model for Tesla is important
Giga Shanghai is Tesla’s largest plant, with a production capability of around 1 million vehicles annually. The Model 3 as well as the five-seater Model Y is produced in the plant. Model Y has been available in Germany since 2021.
In the first three-year period, the German Federal Motor Transport Authority KBA reported that more than 85,000 vehicles were registered. The SUV is now one of Germany’s best-selling electric models. Model Y has a similar importance for Tesla. In Germany this year, around three-quarters of all new Teslas registered were Model Ys.
