The Georgian government regularly invests tens of millions of dollars (such as contracts worth around 66 million GEL or 22 million EUR) in the modernization and expansion of the cable car infrastructure by Poma from France or the Austrian company Doppelmayr, in order to make the globally little-known ski resort internationally competitive.

Interview with Georgia’s No. 1 athletes, Aleksi Beniaidze
Aleksi or Alex is a former professional Georgian alpine skier who represented Gudauri both by birth and sport. He competed for Georgia at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi (slalom and giant slalom) and at the FIS World Championshi.
In addition to his active professional career, he is closely involved in the development of the region – among other things as president of the Gudauri Ski Club and anchored in the area of regional skiing/tourism.
His past as a top Olympic athlete and his role in the local winter sports scene make him a prominent figure and an excellent conversation partner for the future of tourism in Gudauri. Today Aleksi is a Georgian National ski team coach, he owns a ski school and ski rentals in Gudauri.
