Malizia Mangrove Park, which set an ambitious goal to plant two million mangroves within seven months, announced today that they have achieved this milestone.

On the back of this success, the team behind Davao Oriental Conservation Venue in southern Philippines now sets its sights on the new target of restoring five million mangroves. It also launches its mangrove subscription.

Boris Hermann, skipper of Team Malizia, said:

“Together we created the Malizia Mangrove Park where half the mangroves have been lost over the last 100 years.”

This new achievement marks an important step forward in our commitments to combat climate changes, restore biodiversity, protect our coastal eco-systems, and more.

Malizia Mangrove Park was established in 2020. It makes an important contribution to restoring this coastal eco-system, provides a higher income for local residents and mangroves are a great way to bind carbon dioxide. The park aimed to plant a million mangroves in tandem with the existing ones. It was a joint effort between experts from Davao Oriental State University, local residents and the park.

Restoration is an act of restoration

Hermann says that the Park’s main goal is to restore the forest to Mati, Davao Oriental, to a state where the mangroves will reproduce themselves, and where no human intervention is required in the future.

He said: “By setting ambitious million marks, you break down what appears to be an impossible task into achievable landmarks and motivate us, as well, as others, to take additional action to protect an indispensable ecosystem.”

Mangrove subscription is a great way to add value to your equation

The Malizia mangrove park’s mangrove subscription offers a way for people who want to make a lasting contribution to their environment to do so by having a mangrove planted each day on their behalf.

This plan allows you to plant 365 mangroves per year for 125 Euros. If the subscription is not cancelled, it will renew automatically each year. Subscribers find it comforting to know that something positive happens every day to counter climate change and biodiversity losses.

Hermann said this about the new initiative: We are confident that with continued support from partners who have for some seamlessly integrated donations in their daily operations and from anonymous supporters, fans, friends, and organisations, that we can reach new milestones and create an even greater impact on the environment. Together, we can create a sustainable and meaningful future for everyone.
