Alaska Airlines is launching a new accommodations-focused platform powered by Expedia Group. The pairing marks the latest in a string of companies looking to become more full-service as travel providers – a trend not just limited to banks and other fintech firms.

Stays by Alaska Vacations was launched on Monday and will allow travelers to find deals for more than 900,000. Through the platform, users will be able to earn and redeem miles through Alaska’s loyalty programme.

Alaska Airlines’ managing director for business development and products, Courtney Lansing stated, “Stays with Alaska Vacations combine convenience and affordability. Our guests have access to Expedia Group’s vast collection and can unlock special savings, while earning status.

Through the partnership, Lansing said the company hopes to offer choice to its guests for each leg of their trip from flights to accommodations.

Stephen Chang said that this partnership demonstrates the commitment of both companies to a complete travel experience.

“Powered by White Label Template Solution Stays by Alaska Vacations unlocks Alaska Mileage Plan member’s robust lodging supply, and offers incredible value in earning and redeeming miles across various trip element,” said Cheng.

Expedia Group has openly discussed its growth strategy for its B2B business, which sold 100 million nights in 2023. The new product with Alaska builds upon previously announced joint initiatives between the two companies.

In March, Alaska Vacations launched Packages by Alaska, which is also backed by Expedia Group. Travelers can get “package only” price discounts for flights, hotels and car rentals.

In recent years, other airlines have expanded the travel products they offer beyond their own. JetBlue launched Paisly a travel site in 2021 for customers to make reservations outside of flying. This includes hotel reservations and car rental. Earlier this month, it added Vrbo. Other airlines are also aiming to offer full-service.
