A usually inexpensive option: fly from Barcelona to Banjul with Vueling’s A320 or A321 Neo, Bargain hunters can hop on board for $100 on certain days.
A few examples: A litre of diesel/petrol costs around US $1.10, and in small shops you can order a baguette with egg, sausage or chicken for US $ 1. A big bottle of ice cold water in shops cost 25 – 30 GMD.
Hotels are quite affordable, with most room rates starting at around 1,000 GMD/night (approx. US$14). The US dollar is currently trading at around 73 GMD. The Afropolis hotel featured here also offers rooms from around 1,000 Dalasi GMD per night. Surpring: The tap water seems to be of astonishing quality: the author has drunk it several times.

Driving a car or motorbike in Gambia
Daring travellers ride motorbikes through the country, but daily rental is quite expensive (600cc, around US$90 plus insurance).
